Chapter 5: Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders

How is advanced sleep phase disorder (ASPD) treated?

Treatment is designed to align the individual’s circadian rhythm, with the desired sleep-wake cycle. Treatment of ASPD is difficult and data on the efficacy of various treatments are limited, however.

Some studies demonstrate the success of evening light therapy (using 2,500 lux from 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM, or 4,000 lux from 8:00 -- 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM) )37 38,but other studies have not found this to be effective.39
